History

  • 2024

    Today, OTTO DÖRNER is a third-generation family business with a turnover of more than € 275 million a year and employs around 1,250 people. Every day, 300 trucks at 35 locations in northern Germany are in use for our customers.

  • 2021

    The takeover of Kranich Entsorgung GmbH from Neumünster by OTTO DÖRNER Entsorgung GmbH was successfully completed on January 1, 2021. Kranich Entsorgung GmbH is a waste disposal company specializing in hazardous waste.

  • 2020

    The trimodal connection. OTTO DÖRNER has been active in the Port of Hamburg for 3 years, enabling it to operate beyond the quayside. The location has optimal transport connections with trucks, rail, sea and inland waterway vessels. Thanks to the partly covered storage areas on the waterfront and the trimodal possibilities at the site, combined transports are also possible.

  • 2018

    In 2018, we started importing ballast at the HansaPort site. However, after handling around 100,000 tons, this project was discontinued at the end of 2019 and we moved to the 1st Hafenstraße.

  • 2018

    Commissioning of the second construction and commercial waste sorting facility. In order to have another material acceptance facility for handling and sorting in the east of Hamburg, a new site was developed on Hovestraße in Veddel and put into operation in 2018. The site now consists of a construction and commercial waste sorting facility, a shredder for wood and other materials, a transshipment facility for our standard materials and a document destruction facility.

  • 2018

    Launch of the nationwide DER SACK system. The DER SACK system has been successfully used at OTTO DÖRNER since the end of the 1990s and is available in all catchment areas. In 2018, DER SACK will be developed into a “partner system” and established as a brand. This will enable other waste disposal companies to use the DER SACK brand, take on an exclusive area sponsorship and set up their own individualized DER SACK system.

  • 2017

    Start of nationwide Container GO sales. With the white label portal version “Container GO”, OTTO DÖRNER is launching nationwide GO portal sales in November 2017. OTTO DÖRNER is thus creating the opportunity for other waste management companies to set up their own individualized GO customer portal in conjunction with their merchandise management system. OTTO DÖRNER is thus evolving from a digital pioneer to a digital networker in the German waste management industry.

  • 2017

    Development of the new mining area Klecken-Weberkuhlen. The connection to the Hittfeld plant takes place via its own bridge over the track of the German Federal Railroad.

  • 2016

    Commissioning of the landfill of class 0 in Consrade. Combined with the gravel pit, the landfill, the recycling station and the siding, we offer our customers in the area of West-Mecklenburg a very comprehensive range of services.

  • 2015

    Customer launch of the B2B customer portal DÖRNER GO. Already in 2014, OTTO DÖRNER Entsorgung launches the B2B customer portal DÖRNER GO, which is launched after a year of development. This offers commercial customers comprehensive digital support, making OTTO DÖRNER a digital pioneer in the waste disposal industry.

    In September 2014, our new sand washing plant in Nützen was officially opened by OTTO DÖRNER Kies und Deponien. The modern system makes it possible, with the help of a sophisticated but simple technology, to produce different qualities as needed.

  • 2012

    Expansion of the commercial waste sorting plant of OTTO DÖRNER Entsorgung GmbH to increase the sorting depth and the quality of the end products. Various components have been added, such as screening machines, air separators and iron / non-ferrous separators.

  • 2010

    Expansion of the business area to Hanover through the acquisition of a Hanoverian disposal company.

  • 2009

    Start of the first section of the landfill of class I in Hittfeld.

  • 2008

    In September 2008, the new waste sorting plant of OD Entsorgung GmbH goes into Operation.

  • 2003

    The city of Kiel awards OTTO DÖRNER the order for the municipal disposal.

  • 1999

    Mr. Oliver Dörner enters his father’s company in 3rd Generation.

  • 1995

    Entry into the trade in waste paper and waste plastic.

  • 1990

    Purchase of over 1000 hectares of gravel in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

  • 1983

    The city of Hamburg grants permission for the sorting of construction waste at the Lederstraße Location.

  • 1974

    Expansion of business operations around the earthworks and gravel plants business units. Purchase of a gravel pit in Hittfeld (about 85 ha).

  • 1971

    With the relocation of the company from Wedel to Hamburg into Lederstraße continued the company’s success story. There are already 70 employees working for the company. At this time the Elbtunnel is not finished yet.

  • 1954

    Mr. Horst Dörner joins his father’s company as a third employee after completing his training as a car mechanic.

  • 1932

    Founding of the trucking business by the entrepreneur Otto Dörner. The picture was taken in the 1960s.
